First Days of the Sanfu Season: A Time to Nourish Your Health
The Sanfu Season (the hottest days of summer) has begun. The First Fu is considered an ideal time in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) to strengthen the body’s Yang energy, dispel dampness, and build a strong foundation for health throughout the year.
Tips for Healthy Living During the First Fu
🌿 Nourish Yang & Reduce Dampness
According to TCM, summer is the season to support Yang energy. Avoid excessive cold drinks and overexposure to air conditioning, which may weaken the body’s natural balance.
🥗 Eat Light & Stay Hydrated
Choose seasonal vegetables and fresh fruits, along with foods such as mung beans, lotus seeds, Chinese yam, and coix seeds (Job’s tears) to support digestion and help reduce internal dampness. Drink plenty of warm water or herbal tea instead of iced beverages.
😴 Rest Well
Maintain a regular sleep schedule, take a short midday rest if possible, and avoid prolonged exposure to cold air from air conditioners.
🚶 Stay Active
Exercise during the cooler hours of the morning or evening. Walking, Tai Chi, Baduanjin, yoga, or light jogging are excellent choices. Gentle sweating is beneficial, but avoid overexertion.
🧘 Keep a Calm Mind
Hot weather can increase stress and irritability. Relax through meditation, deep breathing, reading, or listening to calming music.
A Great Time for TCM Wellness
The Sanfu Season is also the traditional time for “Treating Winter Illnesses in Summer.” Many people choose therapies such as moxibustion or Sanfu herbal patches to help strengthen immunity and support long-term wellness.
Stay cool—but don’t overdo the cold. With balanced nutrition, regular rest, moderate exercise, and proper TCM care, you can enjoy a healthier, more energetic summer.
Wishing you a healthy, peaceful, and vibrant Sanfu Season!
